Got Time to Read?

Do you read your Bible regularly? If you’re like many people, you may think to yourself, “I just don’t have the time to do as much Bible reading as I would like. Plus, the Bible is a big book.”

Well, here’s something to think about. Based on the word count of books of the Bible (in English) and the average reader’s pace of about 250 words per minute…

  • You could read through the entire gospel of Mark in an hour. The same goes for Proverbs, or Daniel, or Revelation.
  • You could finish Romans or 1 Corinthians in 45 minutes. Or Nehemiah. Or even Job.
  • In half an hour you could read the book of Hebrews, or the story of Esther, or the prophecy of Zechariah.
  • You could read both of Peter’s epistles in twenty minutes, or all three of John’s in fifteen.
  • It would take just ten minutes to read the book of Ruth, or the letter of Philippians, Colossians, 1 Timothy, or James.
  • 2 Thessalonians is a five-minute read. So are Haggai and Nahum. You could read Obadiah in three minutes or Philemon in about two.

Feeling more ambitious? If you set aside thirty minutes a day to read, you could cover both Luke and Acts in a week. Do the same the next week and you could read through all of Paul’s epistles. At that pace, you could read the entire Pentateuch in three weeks, or the entire New Testament in a month. In just thirty minutes a day you could read through the whole Bible three times in a year.

Still think you don’t have time to read your Bible?
